Abstract: landscape variety, time of the day, and other factors (Tsoutsos et al., 2009). In this paper the factors that influence the wind turbine’s visibility are analyzed. One of the most important aspects determining wind turbine’s visual impact is observation distance. The visual impact zones of wind turbines in different countries having been analyzed and the situation in Lithuania taken in, the Table of wind turbine’s visual impact hypothetical degrees is set up. To determine the precision of visual impact degrees, the survey in situ is done and its results have been compared to the theoretical-hypothetical visual impact degrees (a comparative analysis). Visual impact zones of wind turbines are evaluated from ten pre-selected observation points. Six wind turbines (of 2 MW power each), installed in Kretinga district near village Vydmantai, are analyzed. At the end of the study, it is identified that the categorization of visual impact zones of wind turbines should be corrected in accordance with the visual character of Lithuanian landscape. Different observation distances have a great influence on the significance of a visual impact. Being 0-7 km from the wind farm (in this case the wind turbine’s visual impact on the landscape varies from dominants to subdominants), the intervals of observation distances have to be shorter. It is noticed that forests, buildings, and other vertical objects that are located near the observation point change the visual impact significance very much. Weather conditions make significant influence as well, especially on visibility of wind turbine wheels. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.erem.62.4.2363

Abstract: The species composition, abundance and biomass of epiphyton algal communities on vegetative Phragmites australis stems were studied in two sites of mesoeutrophic Lake Gulbinas in May-October 2002. The highest species diversity, abundance and biomass were observed in June and August-September and the lowest in July. Diatoms formed up to 97.1% of total biomass in June and decreased by 44.3% in August-September. The dominants were typically epiphytic species from the genera Achnanthidium and Cymbella. Green algae comprised mainly Coleochaeate scutata, Chaetosphaeridium globosum, and species from the genera Oedogonium and Cosmarium reached the biomass maximum in August (up to 33.7%). Cyanobacteria cf. Cyanobium parvum, Geitleribactron periphyticum were prevailing at the end of P. australis vegetation. The seasonal and spatial development patterns of epiphyton algae on P. australis varied in the lake sites.

Abstract: Background. Human ACE gene was one of the first genes to be associated with human physical performance. Previous studies have indicated that Alu insertion and deletion polymorphism (I/D polymorphism) in the ACE gene may be associated with elite athlete status. Materials and methods.ACE I/D polymorphism was investigated by PCR and gel electrophoresis in 561 Lithuanian professional athletes and in 174 samples from general population of Lithuania. Results. Genotypes for athletes were identified as I/I 24.8%, I/D 47.2% and D/D 28% (χ2 = 1.65, p = 0.19) and in the population samples as I/I 24.1%, I/D 38.5% and 37.4% (χ2 = 8.13, p = 0.004). In comparison with the general Lithuanian population, the tested athletes had a lower frequency of ACE D allele. The results of this research contradict the results reported on other populations: the D/D genotype was found to be less frequent in all Lithuanian athlete groups than in general population, whereas, according to other researchers, the D/D genotype is more frequent in athletes. Athletes assigned to the endurance sports group had a lower frequency of the D/D genotype than athletes in the speed / strength group, whereas other researchers have reported a higher frequency of D/D genotype in endurance groups. Conclusion. The ACE D/D genotype was less frequent in athletes than in the general population. Athletes of endurance sports had a higher frequency of D/D genotype than athletes assigned to the speed / strength sports group. These results do not support the results of other investigations conducted in other populations, in which the I allele of the ACE gene was found to determine superior endurance.

Abstract: The growth of two robust algae strains Chlorella sp. and Scenedesmus sp. growing in Lithuanian lakes was investigated with the aim to obtain optimum conditions for biomass cultivation for biofuel production in the Lithuanian environment. Samples were taken from different nitrogen sources and of different concentrations, with addition of various concentrations of CO2 and in the presence of salt. The best biomass productivity was achieved using urea as a nitrogen source or modified growing medium BG11 with decreased concentration of NaNO3. The positive impact on the growth of biomass was achieved by aeration with CO2 (especially with concentration of 24%). Additional research into the removal of pollutants, such inorganic salts of nitrogen and phosphorus and organic materials from wastewater using microalgae has revealed good possibilities of using both algae strains in wastewater treatment plants. A content of oil in Chlorella sp. and Scenedesmus sp. has suggested their potential use as biodiesel feedstock.

Abstract: Project – a new form of modern organization man-agement, that allows to distribute effectively the reserve forces of the organization and to use the potential is ana-lysed in the article. Successful organization is planning the projects that closely relates with information1 man-agement understood as project management. The proc-esses of the project organization can be arranged in five groups: initiative processes, planning processes, control processes, accomplishing processes. Project is always influenced by surroundings – the group that is perform-ing the project should understand this endless context while identifying the members of the project, organization influences, and common management skills. Modern technologies allow using huge amount of information, and the use of it in organization activity becomes increas-ingly valuable. Very important is not only the information novelty, but also the correct usage of it. When the work is performed in complex and in so quickly changing sur-roundings it is natural to solve the tasks and act using limited information that is why to get the complete amount of information is a problem. The organizations that perform in different business spheres and feel the competition, establish information services, and the effec-tiveness of the whole organization work depends on the effectiveness of these services. The task of such services is to collect information, systemise and analyse it. Infor-mation Management (IM) designing is understood as universal management inventory. The models of it can be designed for business and production management, com-merce, politics, culture, science and even the information activity itself. The concept of the information manage-ment is one of the current questions, that is in influenced by the novelty of the activity in this sphere, very quick theoretical and methodological change and integration into new problematic spheres. A successful organization should plan their activity including projects and informa-tion management. While making a project of information management there appears an activity that is understood as information management (IM) project management (IMPM). Many organizations have their own culture that shows inner value system, norms, believes that show pe-culiarities of the activity, communication with inferiors and other factors. Very often organization culture influ-ences projects. General management skills influence pro-ject management skills. Information management design-ing – is a multi-sided and quickly changing activity. Pro-ject should start from initiative

Abstract: In response to global warming, an increase in cyanobacterial blooms is expected. In this work, the response of two native species of Planktothrix agardhii and Aphanizomenon gracile, as well as the response of two species alien to Europe—Chrysosporum bergii and Sphaerospermopsis aphanizomenoides—to gradual temperature increase was tested. The northernmost point of alien species distribution in the European continent was recorded. The tested strains of native species were favoured at 20–28 °C. Alien species acted differently along temperature gradient and their growth rate was higher than native species. Temperature range of optimal growth rate for S. aphanizomenoides was similar to native species, while C. bergii was favoured at 26–30 °C but sensitive at 18–20 °C. Under all tested temperatures, non-toxic strains of the native cyanobacteria species prevailed over the toxic ones. In P. agardhii, the decrease in concentration of microcystins and other oligopeptides with the increasing temperature was related to higher growth rate. However, changes in saxitoxin concentration in A. gracile under different temperatures were not detected. Accommodating climate change perspectives, the current work showed a high necessity of further studies of temperature effect on distribution and toxicity of both native and alien cyanobacterial species

Abstract: The study objective was to investigate a possible sodium dichloroacetate (DCA) pharmacological mechanism causing an increase in diuresis in rats. The aim was to define characteristics of 24-hour urinary Na+, K+, Cl?, Ca2+, and Mg2+ excretion in Wistar male rats and to evaluate effect of a single-dose DCA and repeated DCA dosage on diuresis. Six control and 6 DCA-treated male rats aged 5 to weeks after a single DCA dose and repeated dosage were tested. The single DCA dose treatment caused a significantly higher 24-hour diuresis when compared to control (P < .05), and it was related to increased Cl?, Na+, and K+ urine excretion and a significant increase in Ca2+ and Mg2+ excretion (P < .05); after the repeated 4-week DCA dosage, the diuresis was not increased, but the excretion of the Na+, Cl?, Ca2+, and Mg2+ ions was significantly higher. Kidney immunohistochemistry has revealed that DCA continuous treatment results in an increase in the size of Henle loop thick ascending limb epithelial cells (P < .001). The study results show a significantly reduced RNA expression of Na-K-2Cl co-transporter (NKCC1) in thymus of 4-week DCA-treated rats (P < .03). The study data have indicated a possible mechanism of such pharmacological effect to be NKCC inhibition

Archives of Foundry Engineering , 2013,
Abstract: Self-hardening moulding sands with water-glass hardened by liquid esters are applied in several foundry plants for making moulds for the production of heavy iron and steel castings. The main good point of this process is a low cost of sands. However, on account of a lowsusceptibility of this moulding sand for the matrix reclamation the fraction of sands originated from the reclamation is limited. The investigations presented in this work were aimed at the determination of the addition of the reclaimed material, obtained in the dry mechanical reclamation, on properties of the moulding sand with the Geopol 618 binder, which is water-glass modified by polymers and hardened by esters.

Tekstini ir diskursini rib lau ymas Johno Banville’io romane At n | Destruction of Textual and Discursive Frames in John Banville’s Novel Athena
Jūrat? Levina
Literatura , 2004,
Abstract: The article offers an intertextual analysis of John Banville’s novel Athena. Destruction of textual and discursive frames is shown a major technique most conspicuously manifested in two textual elements which do not have an identifiable function in the plot of the novel, i. e. in one of the main characters A. and in the descriptions of non-existing paintings by non-existing artists. Being at the centre of the narrative and yet having no function in the plot development, the figure of A. is shown to signal the essential significance of the principle of frame destruction at different textual layers and to manifest the impossibility of meaning in language and/or in art as signifying systems. The non-existing paintings, the names of their authors being the anagrams of ‘John Banville’ and their descriptions in various ways corresponding to John Banville’s writing, refer to Banville’s works; the way of reference calls for an intermedial interpretation which reveals the authorial reflection on (his own) art and, in connection with the analysis of the meaning of A., on the experience of the aesthetic, the immediate and self-reflective involvement of the reader being an essential part of the process. Hence the destruction of textual and discursive frames, manifested in John Banville’s Athena, is shown to be not an end in itself but rather a textual strategy of essential interpretative value.
